By working a bit like a mad scientist–mixing together a potion of all manner of natural minerals and healthy botanicals in a rainbow of colors. If your skin tends to be “cool” with red, blue or pink undertones, I add green or yellow to the mix. If your skin has “warm” yellow or orange undertones, I mix in blue and purple tones to neutralize them. Then I test the alchemy by lightly testing it on your jawline; when it appears to disappear, when it exactly matches your skin color, I know it’s perfect.

Then comes the fascinating part. Have oily skin? I add a few drops of mattifier.Got dry skin? I add a few drops of moisturizer. Have tired, aging skin? How To Apply Your Custom Foundation
Now that you have your very own personalized makeup base, how do you apply it? Here’s a step-by-step, sure-fire method to get that flawless foundation look:
- Make sure you exfoliate and moisturize your skin before applying any makeup. Let your moisturizer soak into your skin for at least 10 minutes before you apply foundation.
- Next apply primer to your face with a flat foundation brush. The primer acts as “skin spackle,” minimizing large pores and smoothing skin texture.
- Dab on foundation with the same foundation brush. (Sponges soak up too much foundation, and using your fingers to apply the base changes its color due to the oil in your skin.)
- Apply foundation from the top down and from your nose out, gradually blending it toward your ears. Don’t forget to cover your ears or your neck, even décolleté, when needed.
